Small Town Friend

‘Try to smile’, I tell myself,

Look friendly,

It might work this time round.

Say ‘hello’

Oh, she’s talking to her friend.

Can they see me?

Theres a space, get in and look interested.

No, they don’t see you,

Never mind, someone will – soon.

No, here’s her sister.

Didn’t know they were related,

Explains a lot.

I’ll come back later.

Before I leave

I pat the dog.

A furry friend?

At least its a friend.
