The Weirdest Things

Little warning before you go any further – don’t read this while eating!

I’ve seen the weirdest things over the last few days and they have been gross and mind-boggling.

The first thing I saw was as I stared out the kitchen window waiting for the kettle to boil, mind wandering as it does, but my attention was caught by what looked like a young crow in the garden. He was pecking at something and I couldn’t quite tell at first what he was doing. Then I realised exactly what he was doing – brace yourself – he was pecking through Scooby’s poop. (Scooby being our dog). The crow was finding the best looking pieces and having himself quite a meal before he decided he wanted a great big chunk and flew off with it! I have to confess I stood at the window in shock for some time afterwards.

The second weird thing I saw recently was on a walk with dearest son and Scooby. We saw a baby seagull in a neighbour’s garden and thought at first it had a piece of rubbish in its beak. We went for a closer inspection and saw it was pecking at and generally throwing about, a dead frog. Well at least I hope it was dead cos that pecking looked mighty painful!

The third weird event also involved Scooby (I’m noticing a pattern I hadn’t realised before!). The other night I let Scooby out into the garden to leave out more crow food and closed the door over, intending to call him back in after a short while. However, my husband looked out and informed me it looked like Scooby had found a rat or something similar as he was, and I quote, “going mental out there”. I grab a torch and go investigate. What did I find? Well, there was no rat thank goodness but there was a crazy dog (ours) with his head stuck through the wire fence as he was trying to get at a hedgehog in the neighbour’s garden! I went into the neighbour’s garden and gently pushed his head back through which was no easy task I can tell you because he was still determined he could fit his whole body through the gap and get the hedgehog. I got him out the fence and into the house. We had words.
