Welcoming Autumn

The winds are changing now

like guards whose shift is done.

New strength is being sought

for tasks that are to come.

Sun shyly hides but bright when seen

through gathered clouds up high.

Their many shades of grey

add interest to the sky.

The trees are what we notice,

their colours not unseen.

Floating from their viewpoints,

red, orange, brown and green.

We are aware its colder,

coats taken off their hooks.

Goodbye the days of beach trips

Hello blankets and books.

The dark of night comes sooner,

we lose our evening light –

replaced with skies ablaze

with sparkles of delight.

We gaze upon the stars we see,

forgotten for so long.

Its time to Welcome Autumn –

where cosy nights belong.
