The time finally came to take down the Christmas decorations and get the house back to ‘normal’. I don’t like to remove everything on the one day for a few reasons:
- It takes too long and I don’t have enough time to do it all in one day
- Doing it gradually allows you to become adjusted more easily to the ‘plain-ness’
- I feel weird putting the Christmas stuff away
The first 2 speak for themselves but I’m perplexed by the third one. Its the same every year but I don’t have a name for it. I put the wall decorations away first as its the least painful. Then it comes to the characters I made, which I showed in a pervious blog post. Putting them in the box is not so easy; its a curious mix of guilt, a touch of sadness, a healthy dose of gratitude and a feeling I’m saying goodbye to old friends for another year. I leave the Christmas tree to last – the whole process takes me three days!
I’m now wondering if anyone else gets the same feelings, or is it just me? I don’t even know why it happens because there is also a big part of me that needs to get tidying and cleaning – more about that in a future post!
So, what camp are you in? Only too happy to pack it all away for another year, more like me for reasons we can’t explain or somewhere in the middle?
Please let me know I’m not the only one!!
