I’ve been camping quite a lot over the years although not recently. Not long after we met, my husband and I went wild camping and in total spent a wonderful couple of weeks living on various beaches on the West coast of Scotland. And I loved it.
I can honestly say, going to sleep with the sound of the waves and the birds, then waking up to the natural rhythm of the world is something everyone should experience. I felt totally at home and discovered a lot about me – I don’t need much, I’m happy in the quiet, I love observing the world as it is and my husband is someone I can spend hours talking to about everything!
We cooked food on our little camp stove, we drank wine by the fire and spent ages outside at night looking up at the night sky and wondering what those little dots that were whizzing about at great speed actually were! It was like a highway up there and without the street lights it was great just sitting and watching it all, wondering who was up there.
Something changes in me when I’m camping – it’s as if I tune in and start functioning on a basic, natural level. I feel truly alive and healthy.
Fun fact: I actually met my husband when I was camping – sort of. I went to a music festival for a weekend (on my own), had borrowed a tent and who did I bump into (who had also gone on his own?!). We’ve been together ever since.
