Well that would depend on the type of work so I’ll go through my top 3.
If I am writing, say at the laptop or on paper – yes, I am old-school and I still use paper. In fact, it is probably my favourite way to write as there is something about the flow of writing which I find helps the flow of words. Typing is good don’t get me wrong and I can touch type but the feel just isn’t the same. Anyway, regardless of how I am putting the words down, I will usually listen to music which is classed as calming, meditative, dare I say ‘new age’ sort of stuff? I definitely feel myself transcend into the creative ‘zone’ and I wish I could stay there but alas, I seem to need musical medication to achieve the state!
I have 2 in particular and one is very new to me but I’m so glad I found it. The first is called The Sound of Feng Shui which I listen to almost daily. I find it calms me and helps me to focus on what I really want to say.
The other thing, which I only found very recently is actually a YouTube channel so totally free to listen to. It’s called GABO Magical Forest and the music there is just beautiful. They do ‘lives’ where you can watch a very magical looking screen while you listen but I put it on in the background and find I can just get lost in their sounds. Truly lovely and their videos go on for about 10 hours so ideal if you have a lot of work to do! There are a lot of channels which offer similar sorts of things and I intend to try a few more of them as time goes on.
I also enjoy classical music but I find I don’t listen to that when writing, it tends to just be when I can put the radio on so there is no ‘rule’ to that one.
Another type of work I classify for different music is housework. Let’s face it, it’s not the most interesting of jobs at times so I tend to listen to dance music as this helps to lift my energy levels, encourages me to dance my way round the house and makes the work feel less boring!
I should point out 2 things here: 1 – I use headphones as my husband HATES this kind of music and 2 – when I don’t listen to music, I’ll listen to podcasts!
The third type of music I listen to is usually for when I’m doing something mundane like ironing. Then I tend to listen to something I can sing along to (sorry neighbours!). I often hum or make up my own songs when I’m washing dishes but I like to lose myself in someone else’s songs when I need to be distracted! Having said that, I am one of those people who can find ironing very therapeutic – but I have to be in the right frame of mind for that!

I’m very interested to hear what others listen to as I find I have picked up and learned a lot from other peoples’ replies/posts which is one thing I love about blogging – so thank you in advance and for all the sharing you have done previously. x
