I haven’t done many of these daily prompt thingys but when I saw this I felt compelled to answer for a couple of reasons and one of them is war.
I have been a cat person all my life. Grew up with them, had 2 when I lived alone etc etc and now not only do we have a dog, I am also heavily into my gardening so I think you can tell where this is going.
The problem isn’t all cats. Growing up, we had anywhere between 3 and 7 cats at any one time so I was used to them bringing us presents and their behaviour in general. I was always the one who dealt with the ‘live’ presents: moles, voles, shrews, mice, rabbits – I got them all and had a pretty good technique. Birds never arrived alive so I didn’t get the chance to help them.
The problem I’m currently having is with one cat in particular which seems to think the work I’m doing in the front garden – my fairy garden especially – is just for her. Just her own, perfectly tidied lavatory. I disagree and so the terms of war have been struck.
I reached my end yesterday you see. I had fixed up the fairy garden again after her last visit and had ended up putting a garden sieve over the patch that was bare. I walked past later that day to find she had crapped in the sieve. I’m not even joking – so I got serious. Think I told myself, think. What will that hairy little defecating monster not like? Then it dawned on me.
I had a roll of netting which I had used to cover up the last patch – you know the garden stuff used for beans to climb up? Well I got a strip of that and laid it carefully down and around all the bare bits I could find. Then the final piece of my arsenal – bramble cuttings. Ouchy, thorny, sharp bramble cuttings – how I love them.
I looked out the window today and what did I see? The faecal furball of fury…..going into a neighbour’s garden! Point to me I think!
So for now, I will go with dogs. Not all dogs – but that’s a story for another day.
