I managed a trip to the allotment today to take up many bags of compost before the car goes in for it’s MOT tomorrow (which will be today when this post goes live).
It was a very hot and windy day on the plot and I had the intention of sorting out the compost bins. This would mean a series of heavy-going, demanding jobs:
- empty the ‘good’ compost out of end bin
- empty first ‘dalek’ into the now empty end bin
- cut down and remove nettles, thistles, brambles and other weeds which have grown all around the first dalek
- repeat all that with the other 2 daleks!
- fill up all 3 daleks with the bags of compost ‘stuff’ from the house and around the plot
I made a start. I got number 1 sort of finished. I say sort of because there was some stuff around the edges which didn’t look very good so I decided to leave some of it in.
I also managed to get the first dalek removed and made a good attempt to shovel the contents into the end bin.

I’ll tell you what though, there was a lot of nettle roots to tackle and that took a while. When I’m doing something like this I need to do shorter bursts than I used to as my back just can’t take it anymore. I used to be able to get all 3 done in a day! Not anymore.
So I took a break and went picking and inspecting for a while and look what I found:

I also saw a lovely butterfly and a bee on the buddleia before I went to the plot. The photos aren’t great but I’ll share them anyway:

And the broccoli? Well it was combined with chicken, some of the onion, sweetcorn, garlic, cumin, turmeric, soy sauce and noodles and it was delicious!
