Garlic Moon?!

Ok I’ve mixed two things I did together to come up with that title.

We had a gorgeous, sunny and warm day here and I don’t care if it’s not ‘meant’ to be like that here in October – I’ll take it!

I nipped into the new polytunnel in the garden and checked the temperature in there which read a very pleasing 25C. I know, I couldn’t believe it either. Actually it was a little too hot in there for me but the last of the tomatoes and chillies were loving it as were the few tobacco plants I have in there (for Hubby I might add, not me).

I picked some raspberries from the garden and then we got our second visit to the allotment this week – we cheated a little and took the French homework with us. While Dearest Son did his French, I decided I would clear the patch for the garlic to be planted in. Last year ALL the garlic disappeared so I asked the company I got it from if anyone else had experienced that. It is Autumn planting garlic after all but they said I was the only one and offered to send me full replacements – 2 bulbs of each which was very welcome.

So I weeded the first bit of the patch, put down some home-made compost and put in the garlic cloves. I topped it off with some manure which I’m not convinced is all that well rotted but I used it anyway.

I’ll put a cover over the garlic to keep it cosy and keep the rain off so it doesn’t rot this year and I’m thinking about putting some in the polytunnel as I’ve heard people get great results doing this.

I had to call time at this point as we were running out of daylight! Well it was just after 6.30pm.

Quite spooky!

When we got home we decided to take Scooby out for a stroll. He needs to go out when it’s quiet and not many other dogs are around as he is very reactive when he sees one. Poor soul has a melt-down and then gets the runs so we try calm and quiet!

We chose the best route we could where we could also get a good look at the full moon – it was the best moon I’ve seen in ages and I couldn’t take my eyes off it. That concerned me slightly as I was starting to wonder if there might be a little werewolf in my DNA. (If you saw my post recently about why hair straighteners are essential, you might understand my concern).

I even tried to take some photos with the mobile I was very kindly given a few months ago.

And with that I’ll wish you a very happy Friday!

Enjoy your weekend. x

  3. Interesting you are trying to grow tobacco there! That’s a good idea for us, you remind me. It’s supposed to be good for the critters, a natural dewormer apparently. I’d be interested what it smoked like fresh, too. As common as it once was to grow in the south US I don’t know anyone who grows it.

    1. My husband said it was great! This year was just a trial to see if it could be done at all and he is happy with the results. Don’t know about giving it to animals, the snails and slugs LOVE it though!
