It’s not the safe, time-saving method of productivity you thought and I can prove it.
Tonight I thought I would start a sourdough loaf which I could finish in the morning. The problem was our kitchen was really cold and I needed the butter softened. I took it out of the fridge and continued with the dishes/kitchen clean-up.
Dearest Son has been a little ill the past couple of days and he wanted a hand to change his bed and sort a computer problem, so I nipped upstairs to help him.
The computer problem took longer than expected although by now I should expect them to take ages because they always do!
Anyway, the house was warming up nicely since I’d put the heating on while I was doing the dishes so I thought it was a perfect time to go start my bread.
I went into the kitchen and got my board that I use for bread making. I was about to get out the recipe I always use when I thought I’d get the butter first and make sure it was soft enough to use.
I found the packet.
Which I’d left on the heater and forgotten about.
The now nearly empty packet.
So after spending a considerable time mopping up melted butter from the floor under the heater and spreading towards the middle of the room, I decided I didn’t want to make bread anymore.

So, in my attempt to save some time, I ended up giving myself a different but time consuming job, I don’t have my loaf and now I need to get more butter.
My multi-tasking has resulted in major disaster! So take heed dear Reader and learn from my mistake. Sometimes, it’s better to focus on one job at a time – or just don’t put your butter on the heater in the first place!!
