There are some things I just can’t do.
After reading about Laura’s post being stolen I think a lot of us have become more aware of the need to put some sort of official copyright on our posts – something I’d never done previously.
So, on Friday morning, I set out to do just that.
Wait…..”What’s a block again?”
“What’s a pattern?”
“Does it go on single or where?”
“Do I need a template – what are they again?”
You can see how well it went. For some reason, I just can’t get my head around these terms and how to use them. The only reason I’ve ever sorted anything on my blog is because the very patient people at WordPress support are able to explain it to me at a level I can understand! (I’ve even had videos sent to me to SHOW me what to do, which was extremely helpful).
My brain just doesn’t work this way. I’m not technically minded because I’m not technically interested!
I’ve had times when I wanted to add something to my pages but it involved adding a line of code or something so it never happened – I did try but all you could see was the line of code, not the image you were meant to see.
So, back to Friday morning. There I was, trying to sort something out which I was happy with and when I finally thought I’d cracked it, I opened a new tab to check my site – it was gone. Completely gone. Couldn’t see a thing.
Back to support.
I explained what I’d done and what I was now seeing. I was on hold while they went to check and came back with the news:
“You’ve deleted your home page, would it help if I reset it back to the original so you can put your stuff back on?”
What? Deleted? Reset? Do it AGAIN??!!
No, that wouldn’t help because I have no idea how I did it in the first place.
So after practically crying along the interwebzones and explaining my uselessness at all this (which took some time you understand), I got this message:
“Check it now”
I did – it was back to normal. Just like that.
I asked the wizard what he did (didn’t ask why he didn’t do that in the first place though) and he sent me links to pages which explain it. When I say explain it, you’ll understand, they explain it if you know what the hell they’re talking about – which I don’t.
Anyway, I’m not messing with anything anymore. I type, I add the odd picture and I’ve got the copyright message on. Just leave it, walk away and no more deleting….my nerves couldn’t take it again.
