Making Fire Cider

I finally got round to making a new batch of fire cider so I thought I’d show you!

I used the fire cider recipe from healingharvesthomestead.com which is one of these herbal sites I dip into now and again. I added a couple of things I had which I think will add colour, taste and of course, goodness. Heidi whose site it is, is such a lovely lady and I wish I knew someone like her here!

I’ll put a link to her fire cider page but to let you know, I added: onion, garlic, ginger, horseradish, chilli peppers, raw apple cider vinegar, blackcurrants, blackberries and a lemon. I could probably do with adding a bit more ginger and some herbs like rosemary – might do that today.

Here is what my jar looked like last night just after I added all the ingredients together:

When Heidi made it in her video, she used a smaller jar and it was packed pretty tight so I hope what I’ve done will turn out ok.

This is what it looked like this morning:

What a gorgeous colour already! If you want to have a go at making this, head along to: https://healingharvesthomestead.com/home/2016/9/4/its-fire-cider-time

Fire cider is said to help ward off colds and flus, is antibacterial and antiviral so a great and easy to make remedy to have at home. I will leave my jar for about 4-6 weeks before straining it and bottling, ready for use. I know a lot of people say ‘make it for Winter’, but my danger zone for chest infections is actually after Easter so I’m getting ready for the battle!

    1. I’ll dilute it when I drink it so it should be fine! Have added a few things just for flavour too.
