I was convinced we had a mimic in the house!
Picture the scene: I had just sat down at the table in the living room, switched on my laptop and picked up my headphones. No sooner had I lifted them to my ears than I hear the word, “Mum”, in a loud whisper from the direction of the door – not once, but twice. I looked over but saw no-one. I could hear Dearest Son moving about upstairs and Hubby was in bed, so to say I was a little perturbed would be an understatement.
Not one to step away from unusual situations, I got up to investigate. I’ve watched enough paranormal videos by now to know what to do. So I check the hall and find nothing and that’s when I go into ‘fight the entity mode’.
Holding onto the cross I wear round my neck, I went from room to room downstairs, repeating how I rebuked them in the name of Jesus and reciting the Lord’s prayer – I knew that any evil presence wouldn’t be able to stand up to such a strong power as that, and I was feeling pretty confident.
Everything went quiet.
I carried on with my online activities, pleased with my ghostbusting abilities.
Later in the day, I was in the car with Dearest Son and as we were sitting waiting at the traffic lights, I told him what had happened. I told him how the mimic sounded just like him and how I had repelled it – to let him know all was safe and well in the house.
The next part of the conversation went something like this:
Son: “Mum”
Me: “Yes Son”
Son: “That was me, I was at the top of the stairs trying to call you without waking Dad up.”
Me: “Why didn’t you just come downstairs and talk to me?”
Son: “Couldn’t be bothered.”
So there you have it: I spent the afternoon thinking I had single handedly dealt with an unwanted supernatural being – all because a lazy teenager couldn’t be arsed to walk down the stairs. You live and learn, don’t you?
