I put a small pond in the front garden last year, just using a tyre and some lining. I decorated around it by making a fairy garden and I have been very pleased with it even though I didn’t see any wildlife using it…until now.
We have a regular visitor to the garden who comes in several times a day for a drink out of the little pond which I’m topping up on a regular basis. He seems to be friendly although I’m a little wary so keeping my distance at the moment. I’m going to show him to you now but I will ask you to excuse the mess in the garden – these pictures were taken on the spur of the moment which was before I tidied any of it!

We haven’t named him yet – I’m assuming ‘him’ I have no idea if we have a male or female. Would you try and befriend him? We are near ‘swooping’ time – when the baby seagulls have hatched and the parents will swoop you if they think you are a threat. It hasn’t happened to me yet on our street but I’ve had a couple of swoops/direct contacts last year which have made me very nervous about these birds at this time of the year.
Having said that, I do enjoy seeing wildlife coming into the garden and enjoying my work! I’m also seeing butterflies coming in and on the allotment plot, lots of ladybirds are now making an appearance. It all seems to be coming together quite nicely (she says crossing her fingers).
