Quandaries

I realised today I have a small number of current quandaries.

If you’ve read a couple of my posts at least, it should have become apparent that I’m pretty fond of my garden and the birds that visit it.

Today however, as I was standing at the sink looking out the window, a tiny sparrow landed on the flower pot on the outside ledge. I froze as even the smallest movement sends these little guys flying off in all directions. He had what looked like a seed in his beak and one moment I’m thinking: “aw, that’s really cute”, as I watch him take off only to land on another pot.

That’s where my next, instant thought came: “You better not peck any of those you wee bugger”.

How did that happen?

Is it instinct – he did land on one of the troughs I use for growing food whereas before, when he was cute, he was on a pot containing flowers. Then I get excited at the thought that maybe he is there to eat any insects present, thereby saving me from an aphid infestation – at which point he becomes cute again.

You can see my problem.

The other quandary involves our dearest son. In an attempt to encourage his underused creative side, I suggested he should set up his own blog so he could ‘talk’ about the topics of interest to him: gaming and more gaming.

So he did.

He then goes on to proudly tell me that after only 2 posts he has a few followers and is “really chuffed”. He asks how many I have, I tell him.

“I’m catching up quick” he says. I point out that maybe the differences in topics and writing styles should be taken into account and anyway, it’s not about the numbers, right?

Then he asks me about the Youtube channel – I tell him.

He smiles and says, “don’t worry Mum, I know you’re doing your best”.

Yes, he has a channel on Youtube (gaming one), and yes, he has more subscribers than me!
