Bird Cakes

Despite the title, I’m talking about making cakes for birds, not cakes made out of birds!

Our garden has been very busy lately as the temperature starts to plummet – the temperature for the previous post about the allotment was around 4 C (39.2 F) – and the birds are becoming quite demanding!

So, I thought I would make them some little cakes using lard, bird seed and the coconut shells that have been emptied. The process looked something like this:

I hung them out on the trees and hid a couple for the little birds as the starlings are very greedy and chase the wee ones away! It does look like I’ll be making these on a regular basis – they didn’t last very long!
