First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
The start of a new year has an excitement about it. We can start afresh and correct some of the bad habits we slid into during the previous 12 months. Being aware of what worked well and what didn’t is a great thing to realise but I for one will not be making any New Year Resolutions. ’Why not?’, I imagine I hear you ask….come on…play the game.
I’m glad you asked. Well for one thing, most of them fail before St.Valentines day (cards are already in the shops). Add that to the fact theres still plenty of Christmas goodies around so the inevitable ‘I will lose the weight this year’, is just setting myself up for failure.
It’s that sort of pressure none of us need.
And thats what I want to encourage you, dear reader, to avoid. Don’t make resolutions just because its New Year, don’t set yourself up to fall at the first hurdle.
Instead, take January a little more slowly, so you don’t see it as the ‘longest and worst month of the year’, like you have before. I think it’s the resolutions that do it. Why would you want to start the year by denying yourself of this and that?
What about using this month to reflect, observe and plan….while you finish off that box of chololates without the guilt? We have time this month – the Christmas rush is gone and nobody really expects much of you in January so I urge you to use this month just for you!
Is there anything in particular you would like to do, learn or achieve this year? Do you even need to set time goals?
Where do you want to go?
What do you want to grow?
Use this month to reflect and think about what you want and see January for what it can and should be – an exciting month of plans and possibilities.
Isn’t that a better way to start the year?
