It was a scorching hot day on Saturday 27th July which was when the Nairn show was on so we decided to go along to it. It’s a farmers show so lots of animals, smells, noises and interesting things to look at, but something did concern me.
I will be putting a video together which will be going up on YouTube but for now I thought I would give you a picture gallery of the day.

I don’t know if you can tell by the pictures but it was very well attended but I did have a concern. I saw lots of animals obviously but lots of people took their dogs too and I didn’t see a lot of shelter/shade or water for all these animals. Dogs were panting and clearly struggling with the heat and as someone whose dog had to go to the vet last year because of a high temperature, I found this worrying.
I don’t know enough about farm animals but sheep were clearly panting, huge shire horses were tied to vans and could barely move and while some water was visible it wasn’t in every stall or needed a human to offer it – not all animals could get to it on their own. I’m hoping I am wrong and maybe I just didn’t notice it but considering how much we struggled, the apparent lack of basic care in those temperatures did put a bit of a dampener on what was otherwise a great day out.
