Perfect Pea Productivity!

We did a very quick harvesting from a couple of our pea and bean plants and the results were surprisingly positive.

We only have a few snow pea plants and a short row of maincrop (kelvedon wonder) peas plus a few broad bean plants. The other day we nipped up quickly to the plot and managed to get a few things before the rain started.

The total amount after I’d shelled them all was 824g, that’s 1.8 lbs. That is only from a few plants and there are still lots growing, just waiting to be picked.

I wanted to share this with you all because I wanted to encourage those of you who don’t grow any veg or are thinking ‘what’s the point?’, that you can get a lot of food from a small growing space! No chemicals or pesticides, grown 100% organically and many from home-saved seed. I see a point in that and I hope you do too.

  1. Well done. We gave up on peas because the security required to protect them from ravening sparrows was too onerous to construct.

    1. Thank you. The battle we have on the plot is a very hungry little mouse! I sowed a lot of peas and we lost quite a few plants but there was still enough to get a harvest from.
