Just a quick post today but I had to let you know something very special happened today which I have been waiting several years for:

Lazarus has given us a cucumber! If you’ve been following the saga you will know I have waited years for this to happen, due to one disaster or another – I could not be more excited.
We went to the plot for a very quick mid-week visit. By the time we finish home-school and sort a couple of other things out, there isn’t a lot of light left but we managed to get up and get the cucumber as well as take down the snow peas.

This is actually the maincrop peas but the problem was the same – the pods have released all their seeds already (I had hoped to collect some). This could possibly play havoc with my rotation next year but I think realistically they will either rot or be eaten by our mouse before then. If I do get any plants, I will transplant them when the time comes.
I took a few other shots – guess who came over to say hello?

This is how big Lazarus the cucumber plant is now (better late than never I suppose):

The next bay to be cleared of plants and weeds is the pea/bean area. The beans are still growing but we will remove the peas and tidy up on the next visit. It can feel overwhelming when it looks so messy but I know now, little by little, it all gets done.
