I’m pretty sure it’s shingles

Being ill is annoying but when you don’t know what it is, it’s even more annoying!

Have you ever been ‘ill’ but you didn’t know what it was exactly? You know you just aren’t right but can’t put your finger on it. Well, that’s where I am just now and this has been going on for a few days now so I keep feeling like I should know what it is by now but I don’t.

It started the other day when I developed a little ?rash ?blister on my chin – I know, it’s as attractive as it sounds. I started rattling round my little memory chest to see if I had been down this road before as I was pretty sure I had. What herbal goody could I use on it? Skin = calendula, right? That’s usually my go-to herb for all skin issues, well that or plantain but that one stinks. Then I was thinking, if it’s a viral thing then that would mean lemon balm.

Then there was the lightning style pain shooting up the right side of my head from the neck, through the right ear and right up to the top of my head – all on the right side. These are still going on. They are sporadic but stop me in my tracks.

I’ve also noticed I’m a little more breathless than usual. I’m asthmatic so that could just be down to the change in the season so I’ll increase inhaler use till it settles down.

But the real kicker, is the tiredness. I’m sleeping 10 hours straight at the moment and I haven’t been able to do that in a long time. I’m sort of lucky in that when I’m ill, my body seems to shout ‘SLEEP’! At this point, I’m not sure if it is sleep or just plain old unconsciousness but I’m glad for it all the same. Oh and I also develop a craving for tea – I’m usually a coffee drinker.

A thought occurred to me the other day: the blister thing and feeling like I’ve been hit with a truck seemed familiar…..oh yes…..oh no…the last time I experienced this, the doctor told me it was shingles. No biggie if it is, I’ve had it a few times and I seem to be very lucky as I’ve had very mild bouts of it. The last time was years ago if memory serves and I was left with neck and shoulder pain for a while but nothing major.

If that is what it is, I don’t think there was much to be offered by way of GP that I can’t do myself so I’m eating garlic and honey like a crazy person. Whenever I get any illness these are my first 2 weapons of choice. I might be stinky but thanks to the blisters nobody is going to get close enough to find out! Which reminds me I haven’t tried the raw honey on the blisters yet but I will.

Dearest Son is panicking slightly he will get chicken pox which he has never had yet, despite my being blistery before. Husband isn’t bothered one way or the other – he is very laid back about such things. His motto seems to be ‘if it happens we’ll deal with it’.

As for my daily duties, well I’m trying. I usually have all the house stuff done by now but I’m a little behind as I’m focussing on one main job a day. I’m finding that is tiring enough when combined with the dog walking, cooking etc I need to do anyway.

Luckily the home-school plan is all done so I don’t need to worry about that and Dearest Son has been doing quite a lot of the hoovering lately – albeit whilst wearing ear muffs which makes for quite a sight. I remind him it’s a hoover, not a jet engine but he is content to do it his way.

My concern is the allotment. I haven’t been up since Tuesday and the weather, which has been pretty good, looks like it’s about to change. I’m hoping to get up today (Sunday) even it it’s only for half an hour, I’ll feel like I’ve done something.

Anyway, I do hope this post doesn’t sound like a complaint as I mean it only to be an up-date! I also hope you are all happy and healthy as another week kicks off. I’m off for another coffee and maybe a paracetamol chaser. Will keep you posted.

(By way of a cheer up I’ll leave you with the image AI created when I was trying to get the picture for the post done. I know an extra hand comes in useful by this is just weird!):

  3. Hope you feel better soon. The allotment at this time of year will wait for you – at least there’s no danger of giant marrows πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you and True! Only thing is I’m trying to keep regular updates on it on my youtube channel – it will have to wait too! on the plus side the weather is rotten today so I wouldn’t be going up anyway!
