I managed 2 trips to the plot over the last couple of days which I’m delighted about. We have been working to get the last of the potatoes out and weed the bay at the same time.
We are really lucky to have manure (and woodchip) delivered to the allotment site, so the plan is to get a good load of manure on the bay ready for the peas and beans next year.

I’ll need to hoe a little bit on the right hand side but I’m happy with that.
We even made a start on the next bay! Clearing the old broad bean plants and did a little weeding. It looks a lot worse than it is as the weeds are coming out really easily.

But on the first visit, I heard a real amount of squawking and eventually found the source – 2 male pheasants having a bit of a fight!

I did manage to get our apples harvested too – many pies, crumbles and other goodies to come.

Even though Dearest Son helped a bit, when he’d had enough and went to the car, I wasn’t on my own – I never am anymore up there!

There are signs the nights are getting colder and some of the plants are really showing signs of the stress:

Probably the biggest change however, was seen when we were leaving the site. From the gate we can see several mountains waaaayyyy in the distance (I’m pretty sure one of them is Ben Wyvis). It might not be clear in the photos but they now have snow on them! That’s the sign I’ve sort of been dreading as the cold weather for us won’t be far behind.

So that’s the update – there is a video about it all on my youtube channel if you want to actually see the plot in action as it were (and the robin!).
I’m happy with the progress and I’m hoping we can keep up this work rate to get everything tidy by the end of the year. At the risk of sounding like I should be guarding a wall from white walkers – Winter is coming!
