I had planned to do this post on apples earlier in the evening but as I’m typing I have to admit I’m a little concerned my new polytunnel won’t be there in the morning. Yes it’s getting windy, very windy.
So to distract myself, let’s talk apples. I picked nearly all the apples off our tree at the allotment this week and now it’s time to make appley things.
A lot of the apples have been attacked by bugs so won’t store which means I get to make things now.

I’m going through a crumble phase at the moment. It’s comforting and delicious and goes well with ice cream or custard – I’m happy with either!
Side note but many years ago, I was sitting at lunch with some work colleagues and we were having rhubarb crumble. We were trying to decide why it was so comforting, what was it that we enjoyed so much on a cold day? Eventually I came to the conclusion and told them, ‘because it’s like getting a hug on the inside’. They agreed.
I’m planning to make some apple cider vinegar soon and more baking of course! I’m thinking apple pie or even better, apple muffins. I realise I should be making really healthy things but I’m a realist and I want treats!
If you have any great uses for apples please let me know as I’m always open to suggestions.
