Getting the garden polytunnel ready for Winter

It’s that time of year already so let me show you what I managed to do.

Regular readers will know I got the polytunnel for the garden very late into the season so I don’t count this as a ‘normal’ year for it. Having said that, things have been attempting to grow and there is a surprise success!

I’ll begin with how it looked before I moved anything – brace yourself, it isn’t pretty.

Yes, I know, it really is a mess! I knew there were some tomatoes to come out and a few chillies so I thought I’d better get them since our evenings are getting really chilly now – no pun intended! I got a surprising amount of food though, more than I was expecting.

I decided to start on the right side, move all the successful tobacco plants onto that side then re-arrange once I’d cleared the old tomato plants from the left.

I took some time to notice what was going on around me (not distractable in any way you understand)

I had a chat with Dearest Son about making a new shelving unit out of the bits we have since my old one is ready to collapse.

It wasn’t quite the successful venture I had hoped for but I will deal with that another day as Dearest Son gave up and went back inside. “Too cold out here”.

I took some time to mess around of course and tried to persuade Scooby to pose with me – he said no.

In the end, I decided I’d better hurry up as it was starting to get dark – well it was nearly 4.30pm. Yes, I know and I’ve been saying it all week: That’s far too blooming early for it get dark and I know it’s going to get worse!

I ended up with this set up then watered and re-filled the slug traps as they love the tobacco plants!

I’ve kept 2 tomato plants, a couple of chillies and an aubergine to see if any of them will ‘over-winter’. You never know.

And just to add to the success of the day, I’d like to very proudly announce that I, yes I, changed the headlight bulb in the car ON MY OWN. That might not seem like a big deal but I looked it up online and found grown men crying because this model is such a bugger to do (renault scenic). Took me a little while but I did it. And I’m more than a little chuffed!
