It’s manure time!

I’m not joking and that isn’t code for anything – I’ve been shovelling lots of the stuff.

During our latest allotment visit, we finally got the beans down, the last bit of weeding more or less done on one side and the manure shovelling started!

Dearest Son dealt with the beans and a lot of the weeds and I ran around with a hoe!

Once we had it looking pretty decent, it was time to get the wheelbarrow and trusty garden fork.

I did as many wheelbarrow runs as I could but the old back had something to say about it all – I told the old back to shut up, I was busy!

I got about 2/3 of it covered and plan to finish it the next time we are up if there is still manure available. I can’t tell you how glad I am that we get it delivered to the site now and can access it for free. It’s not perfectly broken down but this patch will be for peas and beans which won’t be planted in for months yet so it has a lot of time to break down. When we cover the last part, I’ll put a sheet over it to keep it protected from the Winter rains.

I also put lime all over the patch we cleared as that will be for the brassicas and they’ve shown club root this year. I have to keep reminding myself when I’m doing my YouTube videos, that brassicas don’t get club foot as I’ve said it wrong a few times!

This is how we left that side. I’m not showing you the other side yet! We did put compost on one bay but the annual weeds have gone to town with the warmer weather. The good news is that snow has been forecast at the end of the week so I’m hoping the colder weather will kill off the annuals after I’ve ran around with the hoe again.

I’ve been collecting cardboard boxes and will take them up in a day or two. I’ll use them on the path which is quite weedy at both ends of the plot. Couple of layers of cardboard and a thick layer of woodchip (which also gets delivered), should take care of it – at least until I have time to get to it!

Other than that, I took some time to enjoy the view and I’ll leave you with the pictures I took.

    1. We really are lucky, used to have to drive around for miles to collect just a few bags.
