There is a mystery afoot

We have a garden mystery which remains, as yet, unsolved.

We have a bird feeding station in the back garden and I love seeing the birds coming to it and making a wonderful mess, scattering seeds all over the place which sprout and grow into the most beautiful field of weeds which I then have the envied task of dealing with.

I also take pride in the bird droppings deposited on the washing which is hung perilously close to said feeding station. I like to live life on the edge you know.

Recently however, we have been noticing something amiss with the feeder. Quite often when I went to check on it, 2 of the items had been taken from their hooks and were found in various places in the garden. The question was, who was responsible for such an act of vandalism?

In order to catch the culprit, I gathered our trusty trail cam and set it up facing the feeding station. I left it for 2 days to ensure the guilty party would be not only spotted, but actual evidence gathered.

Here is a sampling of what I captured.

Quite a hotspot, I’m sure you will agree. But then I noticed the following 2 photographs – pay close attention and see if you can spot what’s wrong.

You see? 2 of the feeders are gone! Did I get a photo of the bandit? NO I blooming well did not. This individual was so quick, he managed to remove not one but 2 items from the feeding station without even being picked up by the camera!

My money is on this fellow:

Looks like removing the two items was thirsty work. Either that or he hasn’t got a head….which I doubt.

Anyway, I will be putting the camera back up today and will let you know if we catch the bird food bandit. I had thought it would have been one of the rats but apparently not. Stay vigilant. Over and out.

    1. I’d love a squirrel! I think you can get squirrel proof things? They can prob still figure it out but would be fun to watch!

      1. That’s a good idea yeah. I think the one I had was plastic-ish. Wasn’t fancy by any means. That sucker tore that thing clear off! 😆 🐿️
