Frost makes a comeback!

Our latest allotment trip turned out very productive

I was a little surprised and slightly downhearted to open the curtains this morning to see everything glittering in frost. I had planned to go to the allotment and a little bit of freezing wasn’t going to stop me!

I filled up the flask to keep Dearest Son happy and off we set.

I managed to get the last of the carrots out and as the rest of the ground was too hard for any serious weeding to be done, I got out the wheelbarrows and headed to the manure pile. There had obviously been recent deliveries which made me very happy.

(Does being cheered up by a huge pile of steaming poo make me sound a little odd? I do worry sometimes).

Here is the bay I was working on before the manure:

And when I started to add the manure, we did find the steam a little over-whelming at times:

For your viewing pleasure, I thought I’d take a couple of shots of the manure spreading progress:

There is only a little left to cover at the top and some at the side but that will need to be weeded first when it has defrosted again.

Must admit, I’m quite pleased with the progress. My back has been playing up a lot this week so being able to shovel, wheelbarrow and spread that much was a bonus.

I’m hoping this will be the week we manage to get some seaweed – fingers crossed!

  1. Had to laugh at being cheered up by a huge pile of steaming poo because I, too, have been known to be cheered up by a delivery of steaming poo. 😆

🤣 😆 I can understand the sentiment, though! I hope the frost stays at bay so you can continue to get things done as you like! 🪴

    1. Thank you – since posting this, the frost has been replaced with a storm. We aren’t in the worst part of it (we are further north) but I’m worried about the polytunnel and fence!

      1. Oh no 😥 I’m so sorry! Lots of winds then? I’m hoping it is calm soon and everything is ok 🙏

        1. Fence came down, dog ran off but we got him back thankfully – he was terrified tho with the wind.
