Being busy and making plans

We managed another quick trip to the allotment today – but I didn’t take any photos or videos!

No, I’m saving it until the job I’m working on has progressed a little more. Dearest Son was working on the pond area as it was overgrown and we couldn’t even see the little tyre pond! There are 2 lavender plants beside it but they needed a bit of a chop. I gave the job to Dearest Son, with very clear instructions – which were ignored. There is now 1 plant beside the tyre pond.

I’m not too bothered though because it was starting to become a bit of a nuisance and the spreading buttercup was strangling it. At least now I can get in to try and get rid of one of the worst weeds in the world. I do wonder if any of the lavender will grow back – time will tell.

I was busy with the woodchip on the path areas in the plot and I have managed to get the middle strip finished. Dearest Son already did some of the top area so to finish that and put some at the bottom won’t take long at all. That just leaves the one big bay near the compost bins to tidy up, plus the fruit/herb area at the top. Not overwhelming so I’m very happy with the progress and so glad I forced myself to go up over the coldest months to continue with the preparation.

Over the next few days, my attention will be turned to our garden. I need to tidy the front and make a few decisions, then sort out the back. Nothing major; weeding, pots to be tidied and topped up and then sorting out the polytunnel. A good couple of days work will have it ready for Spring.

I’m also planning to start my seed sowing this week. I know everybody starts some seeds in Dec/Jan but I don’t. On top of sowing some seeds, I’m also going to re-plant the huge aloe vera plant. You may remember I did it quite recently but I’ve managed to get a lovely big pot so I’m hoping once it’s in there, it will be feeling more balanced!

I’ll take photos and share what I manage to get done. I realise I’m becoming ‘stress busy’ as Dearest Son has his first appointment at the hospital next week. He’ll be getting sedated and having 2 teeth extracted. He has the same problems as me apparently. I remind him the wisdom teeth will have the space they need and once he gets his braces, he will be well on the road to having a gorgeous smile to go with his gorgeous face. I already think he has a gorgeous smile but he is very self conscious – you know how it is!

  1. Ooooh ouch on the wisdom teeth! 🦷 I still have mine 😬 I know I need to get them out but it’s not cheap! 😩 Hope all goes well! What seeds are you planting? Sounds exciting and like you got a lot done! 😀

    1. His wisdom teeth are just coming through so that’s ok, it’s a few molars that need to come out!! I’ll be potting up some onions (hoping they don’t go to flower), sowing broad beans, onions, chillies, aubergines and spinach to start with!

      1. Nice! Enjoy 😊 sounds like a lot and that’s only to start! I don’t think I’ve ever had an aubergine before haha! I hope he gets through this relatively quickly and pain-free. 🙏
