Not the weather for Gardening

I’m worried about wind – and no, not my own!

I’ve been worried about the strong winds we’ve been getting recently, since a fence panel came down few weeks ago (should be fixed this week 😊) and the other day I got to watch my little mini-greenhouse explore areas of the garden he doesn’t usually see:

It was a most unpleasant day as you can see and we are having more of it today (Sunday 23 Feb 25).

However, it isn’t all doom and gloom! We did manage a short trip up to the allotment yesterday and I managed to clear one little area. It wasn’t raining but I’ll admit it was colder than I thought and I couldn’t feel my fingers by the end.

If you recall I put seaweed on one strip in the last big bay to be sorted but I hadn’t been able to finish weeding the strip due to the ground being frozen solid. Well….

I do like to show you the before and after pics – makes me feel like I’ve actually accomplished something! I didn’t think I’d get any of the next strip done but I did. I’ve cleared out the very small ‘Scarlet’ kale and brought home anything edible from them.

What I did like was that although there is chickweed everywhere (which is apparently edible but I don’t fancy it), it came out really easily as I had put compost on the entire bay last Autumn. I’ve really been trying to get my plot prepared as early as possible for the growing season and I can honestly say this year is the best I’ve managed for a long, long time! I put it down to wanting to have something to share with you all and needing to do the work for my YouTube videos! (It’s a useful pressure)

I’ve also finished sorting out my seeds – I got some new ones from https://budgetseeds.co.uk/ so I was adding them to my list with sowing dates etc. By the way, don’t forget, if you are in the UK and use the code SONEIL10 you can get 10% off their already amazing prices! I bought quite a few things already but you know us gardeners – there will be something else which catches my eye! Actually, I do like their range of gifts and garden ornaments too, some of which would be perfect for my fairy garden! One day maybe.

This is just one example (https://budgetseeds.co.uk/product/honey-sunflower-cup-bird-feeder/) Isn’t it so cute? I have a list, as you can imagine!

Well, when the weather is this bad, I need to focus on something bright and cheerful, don’t I?!

  3. Well done for doing as much as you did. My plot is far too soggy to do anything, and there was more rain last night.

    1. Really hoping the weather improves soon, if it’s not rain, it’s wind or sleet!
