Making Garden Plans!
I’ve been a busy little bee since we last spoke. After the whole rat incident, I have taken steps to reduce the possibility of that happening ever again.
Tomorrow (Friday), I’m going to pick up some chicken wire which someone is very kindly giving me. There is enough that I’ll be able to double it to make the gaps in the fence smaller if you get my meaning (by criss-crossing it). It’s going underneath the dalek compost bins to prevent little furry things coming in and making nests.
I also purchased 2 of these:

Humane rat traps. See the metal loop on the right side? Well, that’s the door and you lift it up and catch the metal loop on the bait peg:

There’s a little peg inside which is a little hard to see. The idea is that when Ratty MacRatphus comes in for the bait, he releases the metal loop and shuts himself inside – alive and well, albeit a little pissed off.
In other news, I decided to chit some of my tomato seeds to see if it would be worth doing for the others. The short answer is yes. The process went like this:

The white pots on the right have seeds sown in them which I didn’t chit and they are taking a lot longer to show. I couldn’t believe how quickly the other ones went from seeds with a tail to little plants, it’s an amazing process.
I’m planning to chit some more seeds using this method: Cucumber, courgette, marrow, squashes.
It will save me a lot of space as I’ll only be potting up the seeds which are viable. That’s a win-win in my book.
On the plot, I’m planning to plant out my broad beans (and sow some more), plant out the few beetroot I have ready, some onion sets and the first carrots. I’ll take you with me of course!
Don’t forget you can follow all this sort of garden action on the YouTube channel, would be great to see you there. Happy Gardening.
