Veg, Vibes & Chicken Wire!

Allotment update

We went to the plot on Sunday even though I wasn’t quite feeling in the mood. I don’t know what it was but I’ve heard it described as ‘meh’.

When we got there, I tried to focus on what actually needed done and one thing I had to do was water the broad beans which were still in their tray and not enjoying the hot, dry weather.

So, on the agenda for the day:

  • Put more compost from the big pile into wooden bin
  • Plant out some beetroot, onion sets, onion seeds, turnip & broad beans
  • Take big blue cover off bay for the broad beans
  • Water in polytunnel and a little weeding in there because of course the weeds never stop!

That doesn’t sound like much but I’ll tell you, it took a while! Everything, and I mean everything felt extra heavy.

We have nearly finished with that massive pile of compost and are going to be putting some of that massive pile of chicken wire down next time.

I have to admit, once again, the gardening helped lift my spirits like nothing else can. Sometimes, when we are having an off day, just spending some time with plants and dirt is all we need. I wasn’t sure if it was what I call the ‘April panic’, where you feel like you’re behind when in reality things are just starting. Whatever the cause, gardening was the cure!

I’ve got some photos to show you but if you prefer video I’ll include that too. By the way – can anyone tell me what type of fungi I have growing under the blue sheet please?!
