I think I can declare victory on this one – finally
Well I made it up to the plot, filled with unnatural levels of determination to get the chicken wire cut and put underneath the dalek compost bins. I planned to put 3 layers of it down, at angles so no more little ratty or mouse friends can visit.

This was the first layer. We tried a variety of wire cutting tools to get this sucker done! I had pegs with me to make sure this thing is not going to move – ever.

In other areas of the plot, there was also progress!

I put in the second early potatoes – Charlotte. There are parsnips showing from last year. They didn’t grow at all last year so I’m confident these won’t flower and go to seed. I also put in some jerusalem artichokes which I was very kindly sent by Terry King from @terrykingsallotmentgardening on YouTube. I really appreciate his kindness and his channel is just wonderful so please do check it out if you don’t already watch.
The rhubarb is getting close to being picked! I am looking forward to making the crumble, jam, cordial and wine among other things.
I had a bit of a surprise regarding the redcurrant but I’ll save that for another day – if I remember. Actually, someone remind me if I don’t mention it soon because I have found it quite amazing.
I’m also really delighted the broad beans survived! I thought I’d left them in the seed cells too long and then let them dry out etc, so I am a happy planter! You’ll see in the photo what I use as cane toppers – the little balls you get in kids ball pits. Great for topping your garden canes as they are bright and hard to miss! I find the ones you buy specifically for the job are not obvious enough for me.
The onions, beetroot and turnips I put in last visit were looking good today so the wins keep coming. I know this doesn’t always happen so I’ll take them when they come!
I’ve been seed chitting again and I really need to get them in compost ASAP. I’ll update you in the next one.
Happy Gardening my friends.
