Results from the garden

Not everything we harvest from our gardens can be eaten.

I have been going to the allotment on a fairly regular basis but I don’t seem to have posted much about it so here goes.

We have been very busy tidying and harvesting – both are continual jobs but I am very aware that it is nearly the end of July and things are changing quickly. Already we are seeing it getting darker at 10pm whereas last month we enjoyed a decent light even at 11pm.

This is one of the 2 lilies from the front garden. That’s about all I get but they are too beautiful to ignore.

While this post has been used to show harvests, flowers and the like, there is another thing I get from gardening. Peace of mind. At present, we are dealing with a lot in this house as someone is undergoing a lot of tests regarding their health and we are waiting to hear results.

It’s stressful.

I’m not sleeping.

I feel like I’m on the verge of tears all the time.

I’m dealing with my own health issues – mainly my back problem which is not going away this time, but I need to deal with everyone else.

So I go to the garden – or the allotment if I can and that is where I get my therapy. I can let my mind concentrate on other things and get a break from the constant worrying and ‘doing’ for others.

Gardening has a reputation, I think, as being just for ‘old people’. Nonsense says I. Anyone, any age, can have a need for the therapy gardening can offer. We all have times where our mental health just needs a little help and if there is something literally on your doorstep which offers that, take it.

I might post a bit more at a later date about what is going on but I just wanted to let my regular readers know why I haven’t been blogging so much lately. So get out and enjoy your gardens – and enjoy your health.

  2. It’s important to let the garden heal the mind.
And I have to comment on the broad beans – I often pick the tips of the leaves to use as a green veg, and love the half-size beans! Delicious. Enjoy the light this endeavour brings to your heart. And I wish you (and all around you) well with the other issues.

    1. Thank you, I really appreciate that. Do you know, after all these years, I’ve never eaten the tops of the broad beans?!

    1. It really is. Should be prescribed more often, don’t you think?
