Calling All Kombucha Makers!

I need your help.

I am new to making this stuff and I recently bottled some of my latest batch and am a little worried about the look of it. I don’t second ferment as I am too afraid of my kitchen exploding and I’m not worried about how fizzy it gets as I prefer less carbonated drinks but…….

Is this meant to be in my bottle?

It looks a little weird to me, even for kombucha! Is it normal or do I have alien floaters I’m not supposed to?

  1. That looks like little bits of the mother possibly trying to make a baby scoby. Not sure.

    1. I’ve just been to have another look and I think you are onto something there! It seems like the pieces are getting together and a tiny disc is forming! Can I still drink the kombucha though?!

      1. I don’t see why not. It may be more vinegary tasting since you’ve allowed it to ferment longer, I would take a small jar and put the mother bits & like 1/2 cup of the kombucha in that to see if the scoby will keep growing and then drink the rest. Not sure how easy that will be in bottles though. I usually brew mine in a gallon jug jar. 🫙
