Why my allotment gardening is on ice at the moment

I still have a lot of preparations to make on the allotment plot to get it ready for Spring. The Christmas period usually puts things on hold for a little while even though I keep seeing people on YouTube with their Boxing Day or New Year’s Day videos (I don’t know how they manage that).

Anyway, I went up on Saturday as that was the warmest day we were due to have this week. I just wanted to have a look around and check for obvious damage etc. The plan was to put down some woodchip on the path is weather allowed. It didn’t.

If you are interested, here is the video I did during the visit (don’t forget to subscribe on YT!):

  1. I am watching your video now! Chilly 🥶 before I forget to mention this I wanted to say hopefully those are not rats 🐀 omg 😱 but my first thought was bird tracks of some sort? But then, I don’t know how much birding is going on up there in the cold! ❄️

    1. I’m pretty sure it’s a rat! With the cover blown off the top, he could just go from one to the other and munch quite happily. We are getting birds too but if you look at the print you can see little claw marks!

      1. I looked closer on your picture on your YouTube! I see what you’re saying.

  2. Oh and I love that sky and moon! 🌙

Back to watching now lol 😆

  3. Btw, I’ll take some garlic! 🧄 😆

Man, I do not envy the time constraints though of having to deal with winter / spring, it’s like a hurry up and wait, and then you have to get everything done in ample time!

I will say this, “Sacrificial Cabbage” 🥬 and “Edible Mutant” 🥕 had me laughing 🤣 and would make great names for something!

    1. Hey, sacrificial plants are a thing!! The problem I find is that many people sow or plant too early because of the Winter/Spring thing you describe. Everyone on YT has done a vid about sowing onions but I’m not doing mine till Feb. By the time they will be ready to go out, it’s still really cold here so I need to delay sowing and it’s a test of patience!

      1. It certainly seems so! Hopefully the result is a good one though! 🤞

        1. I’ll let you know!!😊

  4. You can’t beat the weather. It always wins.

  5. This is a wonderful time of the year to plan and dream about this garden!

    1. Funny you should say that, I was going through my seeds tonight!
