New podcast has the same name as mine!

My Slice of Life podcast…

Well, I was on Podbean, looking for something to listen to when I discovered that my podcast ‘My Slice of Life’, is no longer the only one with that title! Yes, there is a young lady who has started her podcast this week and it has the EXACT SAME NAME!

I don’t wish to sound unfair, but 5 minutes of research would have shown there was already a podcast on Podbean, Spotify, YouTube – you name it – with the name already being used, and for the last 2 years (nearly!).

Now I’m thinking, “do I need to trademark my podcast name”? Sounds a bit dramatic and I’ve never thought of it before. Also, it costs nearly £200 and that would only offer trademark in the UK, not USA or elsewhere.

I have sent the lady in question, a nice comment on YouTube on her first video about us having podcasts with the same name. I’m hoping she’ll do the decent thing and change hers but I’m not holding my breath. I couldn’t get in touch any other way as she doesn’t have contact details in her description. Apparently, there isn’t much else I can do unless I have a worldwide trademark – who can afford that?!

If anyone has any other ideas I’m all ears but I thought I’d take a moment to clarify that this:

is the logo for my podcast which, since July 2023, when it started, is called:

MY SLICE OF LIFE

Do you think that will help to clear things up?!

  1. One would think a quick search, like you said, you prevent creators from having the same name. Similar to creating passwords or user names : that name is already taken .

    1. It feels very awkward. I’ve asked some other podcasters on Reddit and they say 2 things: nothing I can do about it and don’t worry about it! I just feel like the name has been ‘stolen’ if that makes sense!

  2. Unfortunately my slice of life isn’t a super unique saying so I’m not surprised. She probably didn’t bother to look. Hopefully she will do the kind thing and change hers, I just hope she doesn’t get ugly about it.

    1. Thanks Katherine and you’re right of course! I haven’t heard any reply from her so I’m assuming she’s using the stick head in sand technique!
